About Amazon Simple DB (SDB)

How is SDB Health Determined?

The CloudStatus service reports Simple DB health based on SDB's ability to store and query data sets in the cloud. CloudStatus monitors PutAttributes and GetAttributes operations initiated from inside and outside the cloud.

SDB Metrics

  • Query Response Time—the time, in milliseconds, to execute a GetAttributes statement that returns 100 attributes.
  • Update Latency—the time in milliseconds for the updates resulting from a PutAttributes statement to be available to a subsequent GetAttributes query.

What is Service Health?

The health of an AWS service is an indicator of its current and recent quality of service. Health reflects the availability of a service and the performance of key service operations, invoked from both inside and outside the cloud. Service health is indicated on charts as:

  • Healthy—indicates full health and satisfactory performance
  • Issues—indicates partial health, instances of less than satisfactory performance, or both
  • Service Failure—indicates service not available, or poor health
