Amazon Simple Queue Service (SQS)

How is SQS Health Determined?

The CloudStatus service reports SQS health based on the availability of SQS to service requests and the performance measured for posting and receiving messages. Multiple agents repeatedly post and retrieve messages from the queue. Agents determine health and performance collaboratively.

SQS Metrics

Metrics reflect the availability and performance of many queues across the cloud, providing coverage for a significant proportion of the physical servers that host SQS.

  • Lag Time—The time it takes a posted message to become available to be read. Lag time is monitored for multiple queues that service requests from inside the cloud. The lag time presented by CloudStatus is an average of the lag times measured for each monitored queue.

What is Service Health?

The health of an AWS service is an indicator of its current and recent quality of service. Health reflects the availability of a service and the performance of key service operations, invoked from both inside and outside the cloud. Service health is indicated on charts as:

  • Healthy—indicates full health and satisfactory performance
  • Issues—indicates partial health, instances of less than satisfactory performance, or both
  • Service Failure—indicates service not available, or poor health
