Google App Engine memcache

How is App Engine memcache Health and Performance Determined?

The CloudStatus service reports memcache health based on its ability to memcache.set() and memcache.get() large blocks of data (1MB). Response time is measured as the amount of time it takes to read a 1 byte piece of data in a cache hit. An outage is determined if multiple agents receive exceptions from the memcache service at the same time.

memcache Metrics

  • Get Time—Time in millseconds to get 1 MB of data from memcache.
  • Put Time—Time in millseconds to sut 1 MB of data in memcache.
  • Response Time—The round-trip time in milliseconds to request and receive 1 byte of data from cache. This is analagous to Get Time, but for a smaller chunk of data.

What is Service Health?

  • Healthy—indicates full health and satisfactory performance
  • Issues—indicates partial health, instances of less than satisfactory performance, or both
  • Service Failure—indicates service not available, or poor health
